Is GMX MiCA-licensed?

MiCA's CASP regime exempts services provided in a fully decentralised manner without any intermediary (Recital 22). As a fully decentralised protocol, GMX falls outside the licensing requirement.

Why doesn't GMX need a MiCA licence?

No — it means no EU supervision at all. There is no regulator, no client-asset rules and no complaints channel; smart-contract and self-custody risks are entirely yours.

Does that make GMX safer than an unlicensed exchange?

Possibly. EU institutions have said decentralised finance will be assessed separately in MiCA's follow-up work, and the exemption's boundaries are still being clarified.
