Sounds more like a hype piece by someone who is invested in the space, sees that for most applications it has failed to materialize any useful results, contributed to actual deskilling of high-skilled professionals, threatens the arts in the name of ever growing corporate profits and whose only real applications as of now is creating propaganda and pornography and now has to figure out how to stay relevant in a world that grows weary of AI.

This highlyfeels like a investor piece. Reality vs article doesnt line up. Neither does the limitations of the tech. We are basically at how good as it gets for the current way training goes. Its still based on the original paper from a decade ago and basically comes down to we have astronomically more compute than then but its a curve and the closer to perfrction you get the hilariously more compute you need
 


So are they going to fix AI so it stops hallucinating "facts", or are they just going to let it get Mad Cow Disease by feeding on its own bullshit ad infinitum and calling its future output "the truth"?

This is the biggest red flag in the article: the opposite is true. "AI" models are on a quickly diminishing returns path. If and when a new breakthrough comes along, then we may hit another AI bonanza, but that's still to happen.
 


	Also, "AI" is encompassing many things, where LLMs are the aging "new thing", ML is the old new thing that is still finding its way to more areas, etc.

	I am not entirely sure if this is the best place for this article... its a tech news so maybe. My brother got his masters couple of years ago and he is a developer. I sent him a link to this and I told him jokingly to start learn how to weld... but this is worrying for many reasons. I have been using AI to scrape logs for issues and I have been using AI to create reports and summaries... Not for work mind you - for personal projects... but this is rather interesting and terrifying in the same time...
