Artisanal Beer Brewers Find Growing Niche In Berlin

A new beer spot is coming to Cotswold Village when Sycamore Brewing opens in the summer of 2026. The North Carolina craft brewery's newest location will take up 18,000 square feet of space.The indoor taproom will cover 7,000 square feet. Out back, there's an 11,000-square-foot beer garden. The building kicks off next summer at Randolph and Sharon Amity Road, with Gais Construction handling the build."We're thrilled to expand into Cotswold and create a place where people can relax, connect, and enjoy what we do best," said Sarah Brigham to WCCB Charlotte.As Cotswold's first brewery, they'll offer weekend brunches with live music and family activities. Food options will include favorites like blackened salmon and loaded steak salads.Richard Magrath, company president, sees opportunity in the neighborhood. "We've just built such a strong brand. In Charlotte, we think that's an underserved area," said Magrath to wsoctv.com.The brewery will take over the former Vision Works location in Cotswold Shopping Center. Asana Partners bought the center last year for $110.4 million.Sycamore already runs three other spots in Charlotte: their main location in South End, a bar at the airport, and a brewing facility up north. They opened their impressive South End spot after a $4 million renovation two years ago.Making 30,000 barrels in 2024, they've become Charlotte's biggest brewery. Their beers are now sold across seven states: Carolinas, Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, and Ohio.While some smaller breweries are closing down, Sycamore keeps growing. Other big players like Olde Mecklenburg Brewery are also looking to expand.Starting with their first beer in 2013, they've grown into North Carolina's largest independent craft brewery. They're now planning more Charlotte spots and beach locations.
